Information used to run a game
Can't Say That! is an online multiplayer game: everyone joins a room on their own phone. To make that work, the app sends a small amount of gameplay data to our realtime game database:
- The nickname you enter. It is free text you choose, it is not verified, and it is shown only to the other players in your room. Use any name you like; it does not have to be your real one.
- Live game state. The room code, which team you are on, scores, card progress, and whether you are connected. This is what keeps every phone in the room in sync.
This data exists to run your game session and for nothing else:
- It is visible only to people in your room. Rooms are private; joining requires the 4-letter room code from the host.
- It is deleted when the room closes (when the game ends or the players leave).
- It is not linked to your identity. There are no accounts, and we do not collect device identifiers, email addresses, or anything that ties a nickname to a person.
- It is never used for advertising, profiling, or analytics, and it is never sold or shared with anyone.
Service provider
Room data is synced through Firebase Realtime Database, a hosting service operated by Google LLC, acting as our data processor. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Google's own privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy. We do not use Firebase Analytics, Google Ads, or any other Google data products.
What we do NOT collect
- No accounts, sign-ups, emails, or passwords.
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access.
- No device identifiers collected by us.
Purchases
The optional word pack is a one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Apple's App Store (or Google Play on Android). We never see your payment details. Your ownership of the pack is remembered by the store and on your device so it can be restored.
Information stored on your device
A small amount of data is saved locally on your phone only: your sound (mute) preference, your last nickname and room so you can reconnect if the app closes mid-game, and whether you own the word pack. Deleting the app erases it.
Children's privacy
Can't Say That! is suitable for general audiences. It has no accounts, no chat, and no public matchmaking, and the only player-provided data is an ephemeral nickname visible inside a private room. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above.
